MC Yallah brings her powerful voice to the UK for the first time, continuing Counterflows’ link to the amazing work of the team at Nyege Nyege – the collective who brought us the frenetic beats and charged vocals of The Sounds of Sisso, and who are creating a powerful body of work coming out of Kampala, Uganda.MC Yallah is a Kenyan rapper based in Uganda and an affiliate of Nyege Nyege. She recently released her debut album on the Nyege Nyege sub label – Hakuna Kulala. The album sees her paired with producer Debmaster to explosive effect. A heady and powerful blend of sounds, they made their presence felt at Unsound Festival in Poland, placing amongst the top five best performances according to Resident Advisor.
Comfort are a duo from Glasgow, Scotland who make genre defying protest music for the modern age. Comprising of siblings Natalie (she/her) on vocals/electronics and Sean (He/Him) on drums, they make music which is minimal in construction yet maximal in energy. Thundering drums give perpetual momentum to visceral synths as the vocals punctuate each track with a relentless urgency. Comfort’s music takes strength from vulnerability and delivers joy from rage, presenting a queer critique of societal norms. Unashamed, direct, no nonsense and brutally honest.
