Josephine Foster | 6.30pm
Josephine will perform a special piano-led set of her songs. Her ecstatic voice and completely unique approach to song will be well served in this rare piano-based performance.
Sven-Ake Johansson: Trio – Der Kreis des Gegenstandes | 7.20pm
Sven-Ake Johansson, one of the founders of European free jazz, writer, painter and situation creator performs at the festival with Alex Dorner and Werner Dafeldecker in a trio that will compliment and push the sonic make up of tonight’s programme.
Kim Doo Soo | 8.20pm
Korean acid folk troubadour brings his magical, haunting and heartfelt repertoire of poignant songs to the UK for a very rare appearance. There is a striking calm about his work possibly bourne of his anti-positivist philosophy and level headedness which reveal his far flung roots. To the western ear Nick Drake and Bert Jansch spring to mind but his music is more akin to the Japanese soul mates Eddie Marcon.
Michael Hurley | 9.10pm
It is no surprise to find out that the unique voice of Michael Hurley was first recorded for release by Folkways Records on the same reel to reel as recorded Leadbelly’s last sessions. Hurley’s career has spanned almost fifty years of craft and his newest LP Blue Hills is a testimony to his continued relevance. It is great to have Michael back in Glasgow.
