If anyone hasn’t yet noticed, there does follow me a yearning to understand the music of Japan, especially the relationship between song and the simple expression of the voice. We call this, here, the craft of the singer-songwriter, a very silly term that means nothing – if I don’t understand what you’re singing about how come I get it? Hisato Higuchi does something extraordinary with the tools of the trade and it is totally brilliant to have him here in Glasgow at Counterflows for his first trip to Scotland. The intimacy of his music is what it seems to be about. His album Dialogue is just that, a reaching out through voice, guitar and the recording process. After Ai Aso last year, Hisato Higuchi brings the mystery closer. Nothing shall be revealed.
