Working with Cafe Oto, it is always great to hear from Hamish what is coming through their programme which is the most wonderful and intriguing bunch of music around. When Hamish said that we needed to put on a trio of musicians going by the tricky and beautiful nom de plume lll 人 at Counterflows I wondered, what? Then listened in. What a surprise. Their full throttle sound was so refreshing to hear, like crunching gears that are not prepared to pull towards the source. Free jazz like we need again. The trio of Paul Abbott on kit, Seymour Wright blasting sax and Daichi Yoshikama on electronics they are definitely one to catch at the festival. They have only played, I think, twice live. They have been busy honing their sound with angle grinders and lathes. Borbetomagus with shapes and it is beautiful music. Talking to Neil Davidson I then found out that Leroy has been up to take part in one of the house concerts. But of course. With Brotzmann and our boys Free Jazz is on the march. A lovely thought.
